Episode Notes

Mary Cates is a coach, avid runner, and the owner of Unrunning.

She is passionate about running some insane distances, but more finding out what her body and mind are capable of and guiding others to do the same! This was a very insightful conversation about what we are really capable of. My biggest takeaway was that our body can adapt to do just about anything, and a lot of the time it is our mind that really takes the most training to accomplish feats we never thought possible!

Mary Cates

I've been a runner most of my life.  I've raced every distance from the 400m to the 100mile and beyond.  I spent over a decade as a television producer and then made the transition into coaching.  I love to run and race but I also love to help others fall in love with the sport as well.  Running can be such a powerful tool for both physical and mental health.  It's one of the most basic forms of movement but it's a skill that's largely overlooked and honestly it all starts inside the mind.  My motto is simple but it takes a long time to embrace: brain before legs.  Training the body is great but to get to the next level, you've got to dig inside.
